Beginners: EVERYTHING YOU NEED

Want to start being a plant parent, but don't know exactly where to start?

Here are some of my top used items that I find extremely helpful!

 Watering Tools

It is essential to have a misting device for plants that need higher levels of humidity. Also make sure you have something that will be easy for you to pour water from.

Spray Bottle

Depending on how many plants you have already accrued, you may want to consider this easier option.

Gloves

Just to keep your hands clean. I actually didn't use gloves for the longest time. I feel like if you have short nails, these aren't necessary. With long nails, the soil gets stuck under my nails, so I prefer to wear gloves.

Soil Tools

One thing I have learned is that tools make things cleaner and thus easier too. I used to think a kitchen spoon and my hands were sufficient. That just always left me with a huge mess to clean up after.

Pruning Sheers

So I hate to break it to you, but as a beginner you will definitely have some die off. You want special sheers that you can disinfect in-between uses so there is no cross contamination issues.

Soil

When I first started, I just used ordinary universal soil. As I got a little more knowledge under my belt, I realize soil does really matter for some plants. I still struggle with root rot and making sure each plant has the perfect soil mix.

Plant Tags

I love these little tags. They are helpful for if you want to write any notes about your plant on them. I use mine as reminders. I like to have the light preference, water suggestions, and fertilization times written for each plant.

Plants

And of course, last but not least. You need plants to use all these new supplies on. Start with easy plants. See my other post for suggestions.
